ARTIST'S BIO
I was born in California and grew up there -and in Colorado. In the summer of my sophmore year, I moved to Europe with my family and completed high school abroad. My formative years were spent on my French-Basque/American grandfathers sheep ranch in rural southern California. Weekends were spent at my grandmothers home in Laguna Beach. In Laguna, a long-time artists colony, I was introduced to the land and seascape paintings of California Impressionists past and present. This exposure to the world of painting fostered by my grandmother made an indelible impression on me. Early encounters with art, combined with my love of the outdoors honed my ability to feel, observe, and distill. This planted a seed in me- a seed of landscape painting. I earned B.A. and M.A. degrees at the University of California at Santa Barbara. An important mentor at UCSB was the photographer MacDuff Everton who helped me develop my artists eye. I received my Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. I currently reside, paint, and teach in Memphis, TN. My other interests include world music and world cinema, travel, hiking and gardening.
