On some evenings, away from the noise of the world, the night sky is a balm- a calming presence. I think about celestial bodies through centuries, watching our ancestors, and now us.
A clear night sky on December 21st, 2020 allowed me to witness the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. Astronomers said these planets hadn't appeared so close to one another from Earth since 1226. To my naked eye, they appeared as one bright planet.
I began this particular nocturne before knowing this celestial event was to occur but gave myself poetic license to include it. In fact the moon that night was in a first quarter phase. My aim here was to capture the special feeling of that night.
